Cuban Foreign Minister thanks Africa for new condemnation of US blockade

Havana, Feb 7th (Agencies) Bruno Rodríguez, Cuban Foreign Minister thanked the African Union (AU) for the unanimous approval of a new resolution condemning the US blockade, during the XXXV Summit of the regional bloc.

Cuba appreciates the unanimous demand for the end of the illegal blockade and the solidarity of brother African peoples and governments, said the Caribbean diplomat.

He pointed out that for the thirteenth consecutive time the AU called for lifting the prolonged and unjustifiable policy imposed by Washington against the Cuban people.

The endorsed resolution recognizes that the negative impact of unilateral coercive measures is aggravated, and is even more cruel in the current context, when Cuba is fighting the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The meeting of the AU concluded on Sunday in Addis Ababa, capital of Ethiopia, and its sessions addressed issues related to the living conditions and the future of the States, and urgent matters that require the individual and collective conscience of the leaders.

Composed of more than 50 nations, the AU was created on May 26th, 2001 in Ethiopia, and began operating on July 9th, 2002, replacing the Organization of African Unity (OAU).

Cuba and the regional bloc maintain positive relations backed by Cuban cooperation in the areas of health, education and science, and the support of the African continent in the fight against the prolonged US blockade.
