Banjul, March 25.- The United States must lift the blockade it imposes on Cuba and not interfere in its internal affairs, said the former deputy and member of the executive of the Gambian party Popular Democratic Organization for Independence and Socialism (PDOIS). Ousman Sillah.
Sillah called on Washington to put an end to the ferocious economic, commercial and financial siege that is increasingly worsening against the largest of the Antilles, in a new meeting with the Ambassador of the Caribbean island in this West African nation, Rubén G. Abelenda.
He also stressed that the White House government has no right to interfere in the internal affairs of Cuba.
It is unfair, he pointed out, that Washington continues with its aggressive policy against a country that is small in territorial area, but immense in example of solidarity in the world.
In that sense, he recalled everything that the oldest Caribbean archipelago has done for Africa, from supporting the struggles for independence of the people of this continent, to the collaboration that it continues to provide them in different spheres, especially in health, without asking for anything in return.
He stated that given the complex economic situation that Cuba is experiencing due to the US blockade, it is now up to African nations and other continents to help the Antillean island.
Sillah concluded by immensely thanking the humanitarian work that the Cuban Medical Brigade (BMC) has been carrying out in Gambia for three decades.
