Banjul, September 8.- The influential newspapers The Standard and The Point highlight the participation of The Gambia, with a high-level delegation headed by Foreign Minister Mamadou Tangara, in the G77 and China Summit to be held in Cuba next week.
In their printed and digital editions, and with a cover call in the case of The Standard, the newspapers emphasize that the attendance of the delegation from this West African nation to the important event in Havana was confirmed by Tangara himself, upon receiving on Wednesday the ambassador of the Caribbean island, Rubén G. Abelenda.
They add that, in their meeting, both diplomats discussed the preparations for the G77 and China conclave, and its current importance for the countries of the South.
They also took advantage of the occasion to review the positive and historical relations of friendship and cooperation that exist between their respective governments and people, in accordance with the articles published in the aforementioned newspapers.
The Standard and The Point also pointed out that the Summit in Cuba will have as its central theme “Current challenges of development: Role of Science, Technology and Innovation, and its fundamental objective will be to outline strategies to make humanity better, more just and truly democratic, at a time when it faces complex challenges and unity becomes essential to overcome them.
They conclude that the oldest Antillean archipelago has been an active member of that negotiating bloc of developing countries, the largest and most diverse, the one with the greatest coordination and made up of 134 States that represent 80 percent of the world’s population and two thirds parts of the UN membership.
