Havana, Aug 13.- Social organizations from the Latin American and Caribbean region launched an international campaign called «Cuba lives and resists!» to demand that the president of the United States remove Cuba from the infamous list of countries that sponsor terrorism.
The Union Confederation of Workers of the Americas, the São Paulo Forum, the International Assembly of Peoples, the Continental Day for Democracy and Against Neoliberalism, the World March of Women, ALBA Movements, La VíaCampesina and the Latin American and Caribbean Continental Network lead the call.
The appeal recalls that for more than 60 years, «the United States Government has promoted a hostile policy against Cuba with a clear political intention to isolate its people through a prolonged and intensified blockade.
They denounce that «in the midst of the pandemic, the Trump administration tried to further damage the Cuban economy not only by reinforcing the blockade with 243 new sanctions, but also by including Cuba on the List of State Sponsors of Terrorism.»
They focus their attention on the fact that «this designation has prevented Cuba from carrying out transactions using international banking systems and, ultimately, from acquiring necessary goods on the international market, such as fuel, food, construction supplies, hygiene products, and medicines.”
The campaign focuses on asking the current president of the United States «why do you continue to support Trump’s nefarious policy? Do you really believe that Cuba is a state sponsor of terrorism?»
The organizers consider that «international pressure and knowledge of the truth of the consequences can put an end to these measures.»
The campaign «Cuba lives and resists!» he wants «to reach more than a million signatures to demand from the current government in Washington, the exclusion of Cuba from the list of State sponsors of terrorism and the unconditional elimination of the blockade that is repudiated by the international community in its entirety.»
