Banjul, Jul 24.- The Gambia-Cuba Friendship Association today sent a congratulatory message to the Caribbean island, a few hours after celebrating the 70th anniversary of the heroic deed of the Moncada Barracks Assault, led by the Commander in Chief of the Revolution, Fidel Castro.
The text, signed by the president of this solidarity organization in this West African nation, Joseph Modou Peh Grant, recalls that since 1959 the largest of the Antilles celebrates July 26, National Rebellion Day, with popular mobilizations under the leadership of its great and historic leaders such as Fidel, Che Guevara and Camilo Cienfuegos, among others.
He stresses the most sincere congratulations to the government and brotherly people of that great nation, and adds that we know that due to the US blockade, the Covid epidemic and other world problems, things have not been easy for our Cuban friends. However, the letter assures, we are convinced that they will resist and win.
He points out that in the midst of all these difficulties, the oldest Caribbean archipelago continues to send peaceful foot soldiers around the world in the form of doctors, nurses and other health professionals, which is a great example of international solidarity.
He expresses that Gambia is not an exception to this disinterested help, so the people of this African nation will always support their West Indian brothers.
The message concludes: Always with Cuba! Forward, never back, never! Long live Gambia-Cuba Solidarity!
