Banjul, May 19.- The Gambia-Cuba Friendship Association gave «Thanks, a million Thanks» to the Caribbean island for its help and selfless collaboration with this West African nation, on the occasion of celebrating today the 44th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between both sister countries.
In a message signed by the president of that solidarity group, Joseph Modou Peh Grant, the continuous and unconditional cooperation of the Cuban government and people with the Gambians is highlighted, and at the same time he expresses that «we will continue to condemn in the strongest terms» the cruel and prolonged blockade imposed by the US.
The text relates the spheres in which the largest of the Antilles has contributed to the progress of this small African State, highlighting the work of its health professionals in caring for the population in all the hospitals of the national territory, and their assistance with professors in the operation and development of the medical faculty of Banjul University.
He adds that during all these years Cuba has also trained, and continues to train, doctors to become specialists in various branches of health.
The letter then underlines that the foregoing is a clear testimony that the Caribbean nation «not only gives you fish, but also teaches you how to fish.»
He also recalls that the island sent agronomists and trained Gambians in agriculture, as well as in other spheres such as sports and culture.
He reiterates that in view of his constant solidarity we want to say «Thank you, a million thanks» to Cuba, and that we will always be on his side until he secures his victory against the US blockade, the message concluded.
