Cuba will assume the Presidency of the G77+China at the UN

United Nations, Jan 11 (Agencies) Cuba will take possession, this Thursday, of the pro tempore Presidency of the G77+China, the largest and most diverse concerted group in the multilateral arena, with 134 member states, which represent two thirds of the members of the United Nations system and 80% of the world’s population.

It is the first time that the Caribbean Island will preside over this negotiating group, and among its purposes at the head of the conclave, are the promotion, through concrete actions, of the objectives of the 2030 Agenda.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla explained that among those objectives are promoting international solidarity and cooperation in support of the post-pandemic recovery of developing nations, as well as turning South-South and triangular cooperation into a more effective instrument.

He added that the representation of the largest of the Antilles will promote full compliance with the responsibility of industrialized countries in support, through north-south cooperation.

In addition, he will encourage the advancement of common positions among the members, preserve and consolidate the unity of the group, and make his voice heard in the multiple and relevant multilateral processes that will take place in 2023.

Cuba will also support the rules-based, transparent, non-discriminatory, open and inclusive multilateral trade system, and will defend universal access to quality education and health.
