Banjul.- Ten-line stanzas, poems and beautiful prose texts were dedicated this November 25 to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, in an emotional tribute activity for the VI anniversary of his physical disappearance, organized by the Medical Brigade of the Caribbean Island (BMC) in The Gambia.
After listening to and singing the notes of the National Anthem of the largest of the Antilles in the theater of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Banjul, the BMC professor María Inés Álvarez Garay highlighted, in an excellent presentation, the internationalist and solidarity legacy towards Africa that Fidel left to his compatriots.
She expressed that the Commander in Chief was always together with the peoples of this region, first, in the struggles for their independence, and then in the collaboration in health and other spheres, which continues to this day and will continue in the future.
The BMC professor affirmed that Fidel will live in these lands, as in all corners of the world, as an eternal icon of liberation in all its forms, and assured that his life and legacy are intrinsically linked to the fate of Africa and the eternal gratitude of their peoples along with the rest of humanity.
She recalled the words of the anti-apartheid leader, Nelson Mandela, when, referring to Cuba, he stressed that «it was the first time that a country came from another continent, not to take something away, but to help Africans achieve their freedom.»
Other health professionals dedicated to the Commander in Chief texts and poems oftheir own inspiration, and a few tenths sent from Cuba by the father of a collaborator.
In the act of tribute to Fidel, the outgoing head of the BMC, Dr. Anaris Martha Odio, and her successor, Dr. Juan Francisco Oquendo, as well as the ambassador of the Caribbean island in The Gambia, Rubén G. Abelenda, were present.
