Havana, Nov 15 (PL)) Cuba has the will to, with all due respect and the ability to be on equal terms, to establish dialogues with the United States that bring both countries closer, President Miguel Díaz-Canel assured this Monday.
After a tour of the exhibiting companies from the United States at the Havana International Fair (Fihav 2022), the Cuban president reaffirmed that for a long time «there have been lights» for the establishment of commercial ties between the two nations.
We have never put a barrier to it, it has been the economic blockade from the United States that has placed them, he insisted in statements to the press. Opportunities for foreign investment in Cuba are also open to US companies and Cuban-Americans. «The important thing is to find the paths and business modalities through which we can move forward in that direction,» he said.
However, even if there is a will, economic restrictions prevent many of these negotiations, both for the North American side and for ours, and even for companies from other countries, due to the internationalization of the blockade law, he warned.
Regarding the advances in other sectors of Cuba-United States relations, Díaz-Canel recalled the holding of migration talks last week, where «a lot of progress was made.»
In addition, he added that he remains to see how all the measures announced by President Joe Biden for Cuba around the Summit of the Americas will be implemented, since most have not yet had an implementation course.
After the inauguration on November 14 of Fihav 2022, the largest commercial and exhibitor event on the Caribbean island, the Cuban president attended the celebration of Russia’s National Day at the event.
Later, he toured companies from China, Cuba, Spain, Guyana, Mexico, Panama, Portugal, Trinidad and Tobago and the United States, among other countries, in Pavilion 7 of the Expocuba fairgrounds.
