Gambia congratulates Cuba for its new victory at the UN against the US embargo

Banjul, Nov. 5th.- The Gambia-Cuba Friendship Association congratulated the people and government of the Caribbean island for their new victory in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) against the embargo imposed by the United States for more than 60 years.

In a message signed by the president of that solidarity organization, Joseph Modou Peh Grant, the triumph of the largest of the Antilles in the UN is highlighted, when it was approved last Thursday for the thirtieth time and an overwhelming majority (185 votes in favor, 2  against and 2 abstentions), another draft resolution that demands and reiterates to Washington to put an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade.

The text underlines that it is time for the US to stop this shameful and cruel action towards the people of the island, and describes the embargo as a crime against humanity.

He adds that «if we stick to the statements made by Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez on Thursday at the UN, 80% of the current population of the Caribbean nation had not been born when that criminal policy was imposed for the first time.»

The message states that «we, the members of the Gambia-Cuba Friendship Association, will continue to be in solidarity with the Cuban people for as long as necessary.»

It concludes by predicting that the fight will continue until the final victory is achieved.
