Washington, Oct 5th (Prensa Latina) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez reiterated his country’s willingness to dialogue with the United States government on the basis of equality and mutual respect.
In his statements to the journalist Rania Khalek of The Break Through News, Rodríguez considered 2023 as a year for additional opportunity because there is an overwhelming consensus on the benefits in the interest of both countries in the people of Cuba, in the majority of Americans and Cuban citizens living in northern territory.
He stressed that Cuba is a factor of stability in the region for the prevention of acts of international organized crime, against drug trafficking, human trafficking and terrorism.
The foreign minister also added that both nations share common territories in the Gulf of Mexico, they are neighbors with an important connection in environmental matters, in addition to their people enjoying a fantastic influence and strong cultural relationship.
«There are no anti-American sentiments among Cubans. The people of Cuba maintain a friendly attitude towards Americans because they are aware of the difference between certain policies of the United States government and the essence of the soul of the American people,» he said.
He pointed out that unfortunately against that desire remains the economic, commercial and financial blockade and its reinforcement with more than 200 measures by former President Donald Trump, which are still in force.
He regretted Washington’s follow-up of the hostile policy because, he pointed out, the process that lasted from 2014 to 2016 is a solid demonstration of the possibility of a relationship that moves towards normality between the two countries.
He pointed out that, despite the restrictions, some attacks on the Cuban embassy in Washington and the closure of services by the US consulate in Havana in an arbitrary and discriminatory decision, there are some channels of communication such as the positive migratory talks, which is fundamental issue between Cuba and the United States, the foreign minister added.
On the other hand, he assured that next November the international community will vote almost unanimously again at the UN against the United States blockade of Cuba, which will mean support for international law, human rights, freedom to travel, the respect for universal regulations for international trade and free navigation.
Rodríguez specified that on that day, when the 30th Anniversary of such events at the UN will be celebrated, the world will also speak out against the implementation of extraterritorial measures and the aggressive execution of policies against third countries and merchants from other nations. like the Helms Burton Act.
The foreign minister reiterated in the extensive interview that there is an overwhelming majority in the international community that supports the right of the Cuban people to live in peace without blockades that harm families on both sides of the Florida Straits and that restrict the right to freedom. of travel of North American citizens.
