Havana, Sep 29 (Agencies) The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, chaired a new meeting to analyze the progress of the country’s recovery, after Hurricane Ian passed through the west of the island.
According to press reports, the greatest damage in the territories directly affected by the meteorological phenomenon is found in homes, electrical networks and agriculture.
In Pinar Del Río, the main tobacco producer in the country, between 90 and 95 percent of the 12,000 tobacco curing houses were damaged, at a time when some 33,000 tons of the leaf were stored and the producers were they were preparing to start planting the next harvest.
In that province, the most affected by the hurricane, the greatest damage is also reported in housing and electrical circuits.
Meanwhile, in the country’s capital, the main problems lie in the supply of drinking water due to the lack of electricity, while in the western provinces of Artemisa and Mayabeque, serious damage to plantations was reported, in addition to the lack of electricity. and damage to dozens of homes.
The directors of all the organizations involved in the recovery tasks reported on the main actions to mitigate the damage as soon as possible.
