Cuba, first in Latin America and third in the world in vaccination against Covid-19

Havana, Dec 7 (Prensa Latina) Cuba ranks first in Latin America and third in the world in immunization against Covid-19 with 83 percent of the population vaccinated (9 million 286 thousand 956 people).

Only surpassed globally by the United Arab Emirates and Singapore, this Caribbean nation has administered until the 4th of this month, 28 million 644 thousand eight doses to its inhabitants of the nationally produced immunogens Soberana 02, Soberana Plus and Abdala.

Data from the Ministry of Public Health (Minsap) indicated that 10 million 192 thousand 588 people have at least the first dose in this country, with the second dose there are nine million 238 thousand 960 people and with the third eight million 777 thousand 419.

Likewise, a total of 435 thousand 41 inhabitants have a booster injection, 65 thousand 330 of them belonging to clinical studies and 369 thousand 711 as part of the vaccination of this type in the population of selected territories and risk groups.

Precisely this Monday began in the Cuban capital the application of a booster dose of Abdala in four municipalities of the territory.

Those who are not convalescing from the disease and have been inoculated for six months with the complete scheme of any vaccine will be included in this process.

The first stage of booster vaccination in Cuba also included personnel from the business group of the Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industries BioCubaFarma and other risk sectors throughout the Caribbean island.

In recent statements, Miladys Limonta, the coordinator of anti-Covid-19 vaccine candidate development projects at the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, highlighted the suitability of Abdala to stimulate the immune response as a booster.

The first anti-Covid-19 vaccine in Latin America and the Caribbean, Abdala demonstrated this capacity in convalescent individuals and subjects previously injected with other formulations, such as Sputnik and Sinopharm, the scientist stressed.

Likewise, in those vaccinated five months before with the complete scheme of  Soberana 02 plus Soberana Plus, as well as with Abdala herself, argued Limonta.

There is evidence that protection against resistant strains of the coronavirus is greater as the antibody titer increases and the booster doses guarantee the selection of memory clones and a longer duration of the immune response, she concluded.
