Havana, Oct 27 (Prensa Latina) The president of the National Assembly of People’s Power (parliament) of Cuba, Esteban Lazo, today rejected the actions of the United States against his country, which seek to subvert the constitutional order.
On the first day of work of the legislature, in its seventh regular session, the president referred to Washington’s attempts to destroy the Caribbean nation, through the intensification of the economic blockade, the adoption of coercive measures and the support and financing to subversive activities.
Do not forget that the political system that legitimizes our constitution is irrevocable, said Lazo, adding that those who try to overthrow it are doomed to failure.
The Cuban Parliament meets with the presence of the President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, and more than 90 percent of the deputies, by videoconference.
The headline meant that due to the epidemiological situation caused by Covid-19, this appointment could not be held in July, but given the decrease in the number of cases and the advances in vaccination, the eighth period could meet in person in December.
The president of the Council of State also addressed the context in which the meeting takes place, marked by the day for the 45th anniversary of Popular Power, which marked the strengthening of the institutionality and socialist democracy.
«It is time to reflect on the real meaning of the concept of People’s Power and put all efforts in its improvement,» he urged, and called for work to adjust his role to current circumstances and be in tune with the needs of the people.
Likewise, he stressed that the second plenary session of the Central Committee of the Communist Party followed up on this issue and marked the way forward in improving the system, which is «an expression of socialist democracy and a safeguard of the Revolution.»
Given the gradual recovery of the economy, it is up to all of us to contribute to Cuban economic and social development, Lazo remarked, and recognized the efforts of scientists in the fight against the pandemic.
The session was attended as guests by prestigious researchers with meritorious work in the fight against Covid-19, among them the 10 whom were decorated as Labor Heroes of the Republic, of which three are deputies.
