– Africa for Cuba

Oct 5 – With the aim of continuing to strengthen relations between Africa and Cuba, to raise our voices in defense of truth, unity, peace and in rejection of imperialist threats, the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) will celebrate this Thursday, October 7, an African Continental Virtual Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba, which will begin at 3:00 p.m. in the Gambia.

Brotherhood ties with Africa are an essential part of Cuban history, grounded in deep cultural and historical roots.

The bilateral collaboration between Cuba and the African countries continues to deepen and diversify from solidarity, respect and mutual cooperation.

The event responds to the claim of the peoples of the area and their Solidarity Movement, who recognize Cuba as a meeting point to discuss the necessary unity in diversity in the face of aggressions against our nations.

It will also be a propitious space to pay tribute to Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and Commander Ernesto Che Guevara, as well as the emancipatory, anti-imperialist and internationalist legacy, which both shared with the pro-independence African heroes.

According to the organizers of the meeting, they will also discuss the current situation in Cuba and the fourth generation war, the Cuban strategy to confront the pandemic and the development of Cuban vaccines and the process of immunization of the population, as well as the unanimous support of the governments, leaders, organizations and peoples of Africa, to the fight against the blockade, including the vote in favor of the elimination of this policy, within the African Union and the United Nations General Assembly.

In turn, messages are expected from personalities of African political and cultural life, among which are Sam Nujoma, historical leader of SWAPO and First President of Namibia, Joaquim Alberto Chissano, former president of Mozambique, among other relevant figures of this continent.

The event will be broadcast live through social media platforms: ICAP Facebook page (in five languages, simultaneously) https://www.facebook.com/Siempreconcuba and the YouTube channel Siempre con Cuba (in English language) https://youtu.be/_59JXWmQ4Hs

In addition, coverage will be given in real time by the Twitter account of the Institute of Friendship with the Peoples: @Siempreconcuba, with the tags #SolidaridadVSBloqueo, #CubaAfrica and #UnblockCuba

Africa is today a decisive actor in international affairs. Its 54 member states make up a third of the United Nations General Assembly and half in other forums for global consensus, such as the Non-Aligned Movement and the Group of 77+ China.
