Banjul, Sept. 14th. The Gambian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Mamadou Tangara, and the Cuban Ambassador, H.E. Rubén G. Abelenda, agreed that solidarity, friendship and peace must prevail, more than ever, in these difficult pandemic that humanity lives.
The Chancellor of this West African nation received in his office the diplomat of the largest of the Antilles, with whom he exchanged on the very positive mutual relations, and on multilateral issues and international current affairs.
Tangara asserted that solidarity, friendship and peace are vital in these moments when Covid-19 is hitting the world, and – he affirmed – we must end the wars, sanctions and blockades that are imposed, in clear allusion to the economic, commercial and financial siege that the US is tightening on Cuba today
He reiterated the need for nations to maintain ties of brotherhood, good neighborliness and cooperation, and in that sense described the current ties between his country and the Caribbean Island as excellent.
He also highlighted the resistance of Cuba and its people, and the humanitarian work carried out by health professionals around the world, including the Gambia, who are deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize, he said.
For his part, Ambassador Abelenda thanked the Chancellor for the gestures of solidarity and friendship of this small African nation with the oldest Antillean archipelago.
