Banjul, May 18th. – The Council of State of the Republic of Cuba awarded the Medal of Friendship to the president of the Gambian Association of solidarity with the Caribbean nation, Joseph ModouPeh Grant, for his historical and unconditional support to the people of the island and its Revolution.
This high decoration, awarded at the proposal of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), was informed to Mr. Grant, through a replica of its Official Certificate, by Ambassador Rubén G. Abelenda, in a simple but beautiful meeting before the bust of the National Hero, José Marti, in the diplomatic headquarters of the largest of the Antilles in this capital.
After the ambassador highlighted his career, the president of the Gambian solidarity organization emotionally expressed his gratitude, and with his characteristic modesty affirmed that such recognition is for all his compatriots who have been and will always be by the side of their brothers. of the Caribbean country.
He affirmed that his association and his people will continue to support Cuba in the fight against the cruel and tightening blockade imposed by the United States for six decades, and thanked the island for the eternal help provided to the African continent.
The activity was attended by a representation of young Gambian graduates in Cuba, and members of the Medical Brigade of the Antillean archipelago that has provided humanitarian care in this nation for more than 20 years, and to which the award-winning friend has always offered his support.
The determination to award that important distinction to Mr. Grant coincides with the celebration this May19th of the 42nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, based from the beginning on the precepts of mutual solidarity and cooperation.
