"An Island on a Continent"

"The greatest crime that can be committed against this continent today is neocolonialism, the attempt to establish capitalism in the peoples of Africa." Fidel Castro

The sweetness of a look

By: MSc. Maria Ines Alvarez Garay (*)

In the Gambia, one of the smallest countries in West Africa, we find Dr. Minerva Reina Perez, a pediatrician who works at the Farafenni hospital, one of the inland regions of this sister nation.

She has dedicated several years of her life assisting Gambian children, they are countless the lives she has saved and the infants she has recovered.

This is how we Cubans demonstrate our solidarity, this wonderful doctor with her charisma, her professionalism, and the sweetness of her gaze builds bridges of love, capable of healing the body and soul without medicine.

This cannot be seen by the enemies of the North who with this cruel blockade harm the Cuban people, create campaigns to discredit the beautiful human work carried out by our health professionals, try to prevent the development of science and intend to surrender our people of hunger and despair.

But it is impossible to defeat a people who walk upright with their heads held high, knocking down obstacles and overcoming adversity.

The images speak by themselves, we have many Minervas in the world sowing love, health, peace and hope.
