"An Island on a Continent"

"The greatest crime that can be committed against this continent today is neocolonialism, the attempt to establish capitalism in the peoples of Africa." Fidel Castro

They summon from Europe a new world day against the US blockade of Cuba

Paris, Apr 6 (Prensa Latina) The Europa for Cuba channel called for a new world day to reject the US blockade against the island, after more than 90 countries welcomed in March the demand for the end of that policy.

The solidarity platform announced that the mobilization will take place days before the vote in the UN General Assembly, on June 23, of a draft resolution on the need to lift the economic, commercial and financial siege imposed by Washington, similar text to the one supported on 28 occasions by the multilateral forum.

In that sense, he pointed out that he is developing coordination to agree on the precise date of the demonstration with organizations scattered all over the planet, with the experience of the caravans, events, marches and other activities held on March 27 and 28 in the five continents.

Europe for Cuba reiterated its unambiguous condemnation of the blockade applied for more than 60 years, which it described as genocidal.

Regarding the mobilization of the last weekend of March, the channel’s moderators, José Antonio Toledo and Michele Mesagna considered it a success for justice and a milestone in the history of solidarity with the Cuban homeland.

‘Fulfilling this mission, and inviting others to join it, responded to the duty of exalting Cuba and only her, the human society that has built since 1959 that small Caribbean island, which inspires admiration and respect throughout the world orb despite the tight blockade that has been imposed on it for more than 60 years, ‘they stressed.

Along with the rejection of the US siege, the channel created in October last year advocated for the defense of the Cuban Revolution and for the worldwide rejection of the attacks against it, which Washington tries to justify with an alleged disrespect for Human Rights.

For its part, Cuba on Monday urged the US Government to cease its campaign to discredit the island in terms of human rights and put an end to this and other unilateral and interventionist exercises.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Director General in charge of the US Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Fernández de Cossío, summoned Washington’s Chargé d’Affaires in Havana, Timothy Zúñiga-Brown, who moved that position.

At the meeting, Fernández de Cossío described as arbitrary and unilateral the 2020 State Department report on human rights, released last week, which is characterized, he said, by allegations and accusations that are untrue.

He pointed out the US Diplomat that his government opportunistically takes advantage of such a sensitive issue like human rights for its policy of aggression against countries that defend the sovereign right of their peoples to self-determination.

With regards to Cuba, it repeats slanders that have been used for years as pretexts for the promotion of hostile actions and the imposition of coercive economic measures aimed at damaging the standard of living of the population and punishing them for their support of the revolutionary process, Fernández de Cossío said.
