"An Island on a Continent"

"The greatest crime that can be committed against this continent today is neocolonialism, the attempt to establish capitalism in the peoples of Africa." Fidel Castro

A wolf disguised as a Little Red Riding Hood?

By Patricio Montesinos

After 70 days in power, the president of the United States, Joe Biden, has changed little or nothing in the aggressive policy towards the world that his predecessor, Donald Trump, maintained, despite the fact that the now tenant of the White House announced in his electoral campaign that he would reverse the way  Washington acted.

An example of this is Biden’s conduct towards Cuba, a country on which Trump’s blockade continues and continuous aggressions based on the infamous rhetoric that successive administrations of the northern empire have used against the largest of the Antilles.

The current occupant of the Oval Office promised to review the policy towards the Caribbean island, but apparently he has not done so yet, or his advisers are still those of his Republican predecessor.

A few hours ago, the US State Department repeated one of the same pretexts, traced by different regimes in Washington, to maintain its siege of Cuba, by accusing it of alleged violations of Human Rights (HR).

The most recent unfounded complaint is contained in a new report, the purpose of which is to justify the hostile stance that the White House has always had towards the Antillean nation since the triumph of its Revolution, on January 1st, 1959.

It is well known that the United States is the largest human rights violator, however, its leaders insist on calling themselves international judges to sanction those they consider to be their adversaries.

Contrary to what Washington boasts, Cuba is recognized worldwide for its solidarity, and for its indicators of social justice, respect and protection of all the rights of its population, beginning with the fundamentals, such as health and education.

The senior Caribbean archipelago can teach human rights classes to its powerful neighbor to the north, where racial discrimination prevails, and millions of people do not have access to health care, education, and live on the streets in deplorable conditions.

How can Washington talk about human rights if thousands of immigrant children are separated from their families and caged, while African Americans are killed by the police, without their perpetrators being convicted.

The United States has a voluminous record of crimes, not only committed in its own territory, but in every corner of the planet earth where its military has arrived to unleash wars and impose the dominant precepts of a decadent empire.

Covid19 has shown once again how little the White House governments take care of the human rights of their people, one of the most affected in the world by this deadly pandemic. The numbers of deceased and infected without health care are shocking and shameful.

Meanwhile, Cuba, under an intensified blockade in the midst of the pandemic, and which until today remains intact, is the country in the Americas with the highest rate of recoveries from Covid19, and has sent Medical Brigades to all continents to combat this disease, while its scientists develop five vaccine projects, two of them already in phase III, to eradicate it.

Biden has the opportunity to end the hostility towards the largest of the Antilles, but of course there are many doubts if he will really have the will to do so, judging by his position to date, and the question of whether the new occupant of the Oval Office will not it is something other than a wolf disguised as a Little Red Hood.
