Cuba already produces a large scale Soberana 02 vaccine against Covid19

Havana, Feb 21 (RHC) The president of the BioCubaFarma business group, Eduardo Martínez, toured the Biocen plant where a new batch of the Soberana 02 vaccine candidate is already being produced on a large scale, the most advanced in the country against Covid-19.

BioCubafarma, on its official Twitter account, reiterated that the Cuban prototype is produced in that plant to be used in phase III of the clinical trials that will begin next March.

During the tour, Roselyn Martínez, Deputy Director of Industrial Operations of the Finlay Vaccine Institute, pointed out that the production scaling represents another great step in the development strategy of Cuban vaccines against Covid-19.

Recently, the Cuban biopharmaceutical industry produced the first batch of 150,000 Soberana 02 bulbs, a scientific-technological milestone for the island, and reported that the second group was already being produced.

Soberana 02 began phase II of clinical trials on December 22 last and thus became the first Latin American candidate to reach this stage, which includes almost 900 volunteers.

According to specialized sources, it is a conjugate vaccine, in which the virus antigen, the receptor-binding domain (RBD), is chemically bound to tetanus toxoid.

Cuba has other vaccine candidates, Soberana 01, Mambisa and Abdala, which are advancing in different phases of clinical trials with positive results.
