Banjul. – The National Assembly of People’s Power of Cuba (ANPP) and the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the People (ICAP) joined in the congratulations sent from the Caribbean island to Gambia for the 56th anniversary of its independence, celebrated this February 18th.
On behalf of all the deputies, the president of the ANPP, Esteban Lazo, transmitted in a message to his counterpart of the Gambian legislative body, the Honorable Mariam Jack Denton, sincere congratulations, extended to his colleagues, on such an important date for this nation of the West Africa, he predicted success and prosperity for the people.
Lazo reaffirmed in the letter his willingness to continue strengthening the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two parliaments.
The president of the Cuba-Gambia Legislative Friendship Group, Orlando Gutiérrez Boza, sent another congratulatory text to his counterpart from the Gambia-Cuba friendship group, Deputy Ousman Sillah, on the occasion of the new anniversary of independence of this African country.
Gutiérrez Boza expressed in the message «his wishes for peace and well-being for the brother Gambian people, to whom we are united by close historical and cultural ties,» and at the same time highlighted the firm will to develop relations of friendship and collaboration between the two National Assemblies.
He also thanked the Gambia for its support in the battle waged by the Cuban people against the criminal economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on them by the US for more than 60 years, brutally intensified during the administration of former president Donald Trump.

Also from the ICAP, in Havana, letters of congratulation were sent for the historic date of this African State to the president of the Gambia-Cuba Friendship Association, Modou Peh Grant, and to the young graduates in the largest of the Antilles, always in solidarity with the one they affectionately call their second homeland.
