Statement of the CMB in Gambia on the occasion of this January 28th
There are men who are born to dignify and make the history of humanity grow, who are nourished with the sap of many offspring and the best patriotic traditions of their peoples, unconditional men, completely given over to the duty imposed on them by the epoch where they have to live.
The historical figure of José Martí is without a doubt one of the essential pillars in the genesis of Cuban revolutionary thought and in the irrevocable firmness of patriotic feelings.
We find in the Apostle the uncompromising revolutionary who transcends the time, his time, who loved freedom, knowledge and culture. A man of democratic thinking, who defended equality, his right to live in a just Homeland, and worked intensely in favor of his homeland and Latin America.
Martí taught us that a revolutionary and a ruler cannot have either enjoyment or private life, that he must dedicate everything to his people, to the people who elected him, and demand a position of responsibility and combat from him.
Marti’s ideas reach their highest concretion in the undisputed leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, who materialized the Apostle’s ideas on education, by making the educational system of the largest of the Antilles increasingly correspond to equality , full justice, self-esteem and the moral and social needs of citizens in the model of society that the Cuban people have set out to create.
Nobody like Martí can guide us in the endeavor to face the challenges to counteract the brutal and revolted imperialism of the north because he was the first to characterize it and denounce it publicly.
We Cubans of these times have it very clear and we know, as our Commander-in-Chief stated in one of his memorable Reflections dedicated to the pro-independence General Antonio Maceo, that «Martí’s frowning face and Maceo’s withering gaze point out to each Cuban the hard path of duty and not on which side you live better. «
José Martí is a paradigm for all the peoples who today fight for a better world, in the midst of the adversities that humanity currently faces.
The ideology of the Cuban Apostle is an example to follow at all times: his independence, anti-imperialism, anti-racism, humanism and integrationism, are indispensable weapons to safeguard this world against the neoliberal interventionist avalanches.
With everyone and for the good of all.
Long live Jose Martí!
Long live Fidel!
Long live the Cuban Revolution!
