Washington, Jan 11 (Agencies) The outgoing US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo remains obsessed with his plan to re-include Cuba on the unilateral and illegal list of countries that Washington says sponsor terrorism.
Such a measure is in line with the defeated President Donald Trump’s line against the Caribbean island since he took office in January 2017, as part of his plans to strengthen the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on the Cuban people for almost six decades.
Analysts agree that Pompeo, who will have to leave his post after Trump’s departure from the White House on January 20, is a political corpse who insists on continuing to harm the largest of the Antilles.
The administration of Barack Obama (2009-2017) removed Cuba from that spurious list by determining that the country did not support international terrorism, but Pompeo insists on its malevolent purpose.
According to the same experts, this unjustified sanction is intended to complicate any effort by the president-elect, Joe Biden, to resume the thaw initiated by Obama in the ties with Havana.
In this regard, the president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, recently denounced the efforts of the overthrown Washington administration to include the island in said unilateral list.
Diaz-Canel described this measure as absurd, hypocritical and unfair, by a regime that welcomes terrorist groups that act against the Antillean nation.
In recent years, Cuba has denounced the long history of acts of terrorism committed from and in the US territory against the Island, and the complicity of the White House with individuals and organizations participating in those violent actions.
Last year, the headquarters of the Cuban embassy in Washington was shot by a citizen that Trump and Pompeo have protected until today, as they have tried to do with the mob of violent men that attacked the Capitol a few days ago, in an obvious attempt to coup by State in the heart of Washington.
