"An Island on a Continent"

"The greatest crime that can be committed against this continent today is neocolonialism, the attempt to establish capitalism in the peoples of Africa." Fidel Castro

The Cuban Medical Brigade (BMC) in The Gambia salutes and celebrates this September 28th the 60th anniversary of the creation of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR)

It is impossible to talk about the CDRs and not think of our Commander in Chief, Fidel Castro, who with his ideas and actions truly taught us the meaning of “people.»

How can I forget those words in the speech of September 28th, 1960 when he expressed:

«… We are going to implement, in the face of imperialist aggression campaigns, a system of revolutionary collective surveillance so that everyone knows who lives on the block, and what the one who lives on the block does and what relationships he had with the tyranny, and what does he do, who does he hang out with, what activities he does, because if they think they are going to be able to confront the people, he will be disappointed!”

That same night, at the end of the speech, thus was born the mass organization that has defended until today the work started by the Revolution in the face of continuous aggressions, blockade and terrorist actions orchestrated and financed from United States territory.

CDRs have played a leading role since their inception, because they had the enormous task of participating in national literacy and vaccination campaigns. They have always constituted a transcendental link in the protection of human lives during natural disasters and constitute an element of vital support to the Civil Defense of our nation during these situations.

They collaborate in campaigns for blood donations and disease eradication, without neglecting their task of revolutionary vigilance against terrorism in the State of Washington.

Today from the sister Republic of the Gambia, in which we are offering our solidarity help and at the same time fighting COVID-19 together with its people, we ratify our commitment to serve those who need it, because we are not intimidated by the imperialist campaigns that only seek to sow hatred and pain, as well as trying to tarnish the image of Cuban medical collaboration.

We strongly support our president Miguel Díaz-Canel, our Army General, Raúl Castro, and our government for every measure taken in order to preserve our achievements, in the face of the current economic and financial crisis that we are experiencing due to a cruel, unjust and inhumane blockade imposed by the Washington regimes for more than half a century on our brave people.

Being part of the CDR is the pride of every grateful Cuban, since they are present in all the important processes that take place in our country.

It is from the neighborhood where the family grows larger, where each process, each law is discussed. Every measure that is taken in the country to defend the Revolution is discussed and approved in the community.

Thanks Fidel! Thanks to you we have the honor of having the CDRs, the most massive organization in Cuban society, which constitutes an axis of solidarity and mutual aid among neighbors.

Long live the 60th Anniversary of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution!
