Twenty years ago our eternal commander Fidel Castro Ruz gave a speech in which he referred to the Cuban Medical Brigade (CMB) in The Gambia:
… «A few days ago I met with 70 health workers, who after a short vacation were returning to the Gambia to resume their noble and self-sacrificing work in that West African country ….»
… «I experienced a truly profound emotion that day after the three-hour exchange that I had with those compatriots …» … «They were men and women of humble origin, of all races and mixtures of races, just as we are Something stood out above all: legitimate pride, optimism, personal courage, self-confidence, creative spirit, quick mind, cheerful voice and gesture, which unmistakably and incomparably characterize Cuban internationalists. «
Today 2 decades later, just when it marks the 94th anniversary of the birth of this great man, lover of freedom and solidarity, here are the members of the CMB in The Gambia, now more than 150, in their battle trench, firmer and altruistic than ever, faithfully following his valuable legacy and serving this African people unconditionally and with plenty of love.
This morning a group made up of doctors from different specialties and nurses received a refresher course with the most recent protocols for the care of this disease that today robs humanity of thousands of valuable lives.
These brave soldiers of our invincible army in white coats are flagged down to serve on the red line and in the isolation centers alongside our Gambian brothers. The Cuban medical brigade in The Gambia is already in a decisive battle against the pandemic until the Final Victory.
Forward dear doctors and nurses, standard bearers of the honor of the country, heralds of health and life, victors of death, Olympic champions of true humanism.
Let’s show what Cuba is today! A people that promised to win and will win!
