"The greatest crime that can be committed against this continent today is neocolonialism, the attempt to establish capitalism in the peoples of Africa." Fidel Castro

We, the cuban doctors, offer lives

“To be internationalists is to pay our own debt to humanity (…) Who ever is not capable of fighting for others, will never be able enough to fight for himself”.

Fidel Castro Ruz

Throughout all these years, Cuban medicine has gained, through concrete actions, the highest prestige at the international level, because we are able to be selflessly supportive, by pure conviction, always ready to give our lives in order to save others.

We are a medical power and we continue to bring health to the doors of all those who need it, regardless of race, religion or social status, nor has this pandemic that plagues humanity stopped us, on the contrary, we have fought and continue to fight against it tirelessly.

The Cuban medical brigade in The Gambia has continued to provide its services in all corners of this country.

In Bansang, one of the most intricate regions of the Gambian geography, we find a group of brave Cuban health professionals, who are developing a meritorious work with their population, despite the intense heat of this season, patient care is their priority.

This week, as always, Dr. Annia Celia Ocaña Zamora, specialist in Gynecology and Obstetrics, has had a hectic day.

She performed two cesarean deliveries to high-risk patients, one pregnant woman with Eclampsia and twin pregnancy with both fetuses in breech presentation, pre terms. The skill and care provided by the team allowed a successful surgery and a happy delivery, today the three of them are stable.

The second case was a patient with a 37-week gestation and triplet pregnancy, in labor, whom our doctor has followed by consultation and ultrasound since the second trimester of pregnancy, providing her a careful assistance.

The Gambia received 5 healthy children, in the case of the triplets, the first and second New born: 2.8 Kg and the third: 2.5 Kg. These results, the smile of the mothers and the thanks in their dialect made them feel a great satisfaction and happiness, once again our conscience, our altruism speak loudly and our love for the profession that we perform day by day.

Let us remember the words of our eternal Commander: “We demonstrate that the human being can and should be better (…) we demonstrate the value of conscience and ethics. We offer lives. »

Fidel taught us to train professionals willing to fight against death, to respond to many of the tragedies on the planet, and to always save lives, many lives.
